Attendance has recently improved and is now a little above the national average. The school works closely with parents to minimise the taking of holidays in school time.                                                                                                                                             (Ofsted, July 2014)

Attendance

Good attendance and punctuality are fundamental in giving children the best possible start in life. Children are expected to be at school at 8.35am in EYFS and KS1 for an 8.45am start, and doors open for KS2 pupils at 8.45am. If your child is ill, please call the school absence line on 0114-247-0549.

Family holidays are discouraged, and parents who take their child on an unauthorised family holiday may be subject to a fixed penalty notice from the Local Authority. Please read our Attendance Policy in the policies area of this website for further information.

Attendance at St Giles is generally in line with the national average, and the school sets targets for attendance which exceed this. Rewards are given to children with good attendance levels, or improved attendance. Families where attendance or punctuality is a cause for concern are supported by our Learning Mentor and/or the Education Welfare Service.
